Flower Photographer
A celebration of Aotearoa’s unique and beautiful birdlife.
Flower photography is a wonderful way to slow down and notice the small, beautiful details around us in Aotearoa. I find there’s something quietly magical about working with flowers — the soft light at dawn or dusk, the gentle curve of a petal, the glint of dew, or a breeze stirring the leaves. Many of these photographs come from early‑morning garden walks, quiet bush tracks, or simple strolls wherever native and wild flowers catch my eye.
I love flower photography because it lets me pause and really see the world. I try different angles: lying low and shooting up through leaves, getting in close for macro details, or stepping back to show a whole scene. Light, shadow, focus, and viewpoint — small changes can completely shift the mood. What I’m chasing is stillness, beauty, and a bit of calm — a secret world that’s always there, if we take a moment to look.
Flower Photography: A Collection of My Favourite Blooms
Here’s a selection of my favourite floral moments — from home gardens to bush edges, meadows to coastal wildflower patches. I’ll keep adding to this collection each time I wander, see something lovely, and raise my camera.
A Quiet Approach
When I photograph flowers, I like to work gently and take my time. Often I’m up early, when the world is soft and quiet. I wait for subtle shifts in light, a gentle breeze, or a drop of moisture on a petal. I move slowly, change angles, and sometimes I don’t take the shot at all — just sit and appreciate what’s unfolding. My hope is that same calm and respect for nature comes through in the photos.
Inspiration From Aotearoa’s Plants
New Zealand is home to so many unique plants — from native wildflowers and ferns to seasonal blooms in gardens and parks. There’s a story in every petal and leaf. Photographing them connects me to the land I love, and sharing those images is my way of celebrating the little treasures we might otherwise walk past without noticing.
Thank You for Visiting
Thanks so much for taking the time to explore my flower photography. I feel honoured to share these tiny beauties — and I love knowing there are others who notice them too. I’ll keep adding new blooms, new colours, new quiet moments. Hope you’ll stop by again when I do.
