Embracing Winter Adventures: Exploring Our Beautiful Country

Winter Mt Ruapehu

Our country is stunning all year round, and winter is no exception. Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean we should stay cooped up indoors. Armed with my trusty campervan, my husband, and our adventurous dog, we set out to explore new places and revisit some old favourites.

Mt Ngauruhoe in Winter

Our journey began with a long drive to Wellington to see the Dr. Who exhibition. This was our dog’s first extensive road trip, and she loved every moment, taking in new sights and smells. On the way we spent the night on the Desert Road, one of our favourite camping spots. There’s nothing quite like waking up to the breath-taking view of the sun rising over Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe, although I must admit, I slept in and missed the actual sunrise.

Winter Sunset at Foxton Beach

After breakfast and a refreshing walk, we headed to Foxton Beach. Here, we enjoyed another walk, capturing photos of the waves, the stunning sunset, and our dog chasing seagulls along the shore. The next morning was a bit wet, but it didn’t stop us from another walk after breakfast.

Arriving in Wellington, we faced a bit of a weather challenge, mainly due to forgetting our raincoats. However, the next day was better, allowing us to explore Te Papa Museum and the vibrant Cuba Street. Before heading home, we spent a night at National Park and visited Horopito Motors, famous for its appearances in films like “Smash Palace,” “Goodbye Pork Pie,” and “Hunt for the Wilder people.” If you’re into vintage cars and rustic relics, this place is a treasure trove.

Now back home, I have a lot of photographs to sort through and share. I’ll be making videos of our adventures for my YouTube channel, so stay tuned!

Remember, winter shouldn’t stop you from having your own adventures. Get out there, explore, and take lots of photos to share with your friends!
